On the surface, they might look the same because they are both coated with the same Beckers paint systems. But it’s what’s underneath that counts! Galvalume is made from bare steel covered with a mixture of zinc, aluminum, and trace amounts of silicon to improve its long-term weathering capabilities. Galvanized steel is made by passing bare steel through a bath of molten zinc at 842º F. The zinc coating that gives the steel sheet its resistance to weathering and rust, offers better cathodic or sacrificial protection for scratches and cut edges. At Legacy Metals, we only use galvanized substrates, not galvalume!

Important: Galvanized steel is known to resist ammonia better than galvalume. That is why we only use Galvanized steel in the presence of vapors from animal confinement. Also, all our trims are made with galvanized 28 gauge metal.

Corrugated metal panels are G100 Heavy-Duty 28-Gauge Thickness. Panels are 36″ wide. Ribs are spaced 9″ apart and .75″ high. Panels are cut to length as desired.

Yes! We metal soffit in two styles: solid or vented. Soffit is 12″ for a 11.25″ coverage and cut to the desired length.

Homeowners like textured metal panels because the unique textured surface redirects sunlight for less glare than smooth panels. Plus the textured panels are less prone to “oil canning” which makes for a more attractive roof. Contractors like textured metal panels because the texture provides more grip during installation than smooth panels. 

The color options vary a bit with 20 standard metal color choices and 15 textured metal color choices. Both carry the same 40-year film integrity warranty from Beckers. Textured metal panels redirect sunlight for less glare than smooth panels. Textured panels also offer more grip for anyone working on the roof. Textured metal items have a slightly higher price.

Textured metals features BeckryTex, a unique wrinkled coating based on Beckers HDPE resin.

Beckers has performed thorough tests on its products in accelerated and real life weathering situations. BeckryTex was found to be no more susceptible to biologic attack than comparative products.

With any product, the growth of algae, mold, and mildew on any coating is dependent on environmental and climate factors. Beckers recommends periodic cleaning within area of high dirt and humidity.
